Development and validation of new methods for quantifying freezing of gait among patients with Parkinson's disease
Freezing of gait (FOG) is an episodic gait disorder that affects more than 70% of patients with advanced Parkinson's disease (PD). It's a general inability to produce effective steps and includes the complete arrest of gait. The main goal of this research is to develop a new method for quantifying FOG, using multiple wearable sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer). This method would be used as an objective automated tool for detection and assessment of FOG episodes at the lab and later at patients' home settings.
