Insulin signaling and metabolism in neurodegenerative diseases
Different neurodegenerative diseases affect various neuronal populations, yet they share common characteristics such as extensive activation of glial populations and changes in metabolic functions in the central nervous system and the periphery. Insulin signaling pathways play an important role both in metabolic processes and in neurotrophic pathways, and impairments in these pathways are observed in AD and ALS patients and mouse models.
I am interested in understanding the role of insulin signaling in glial activation and metabolic dysfunction in neurodegenerative diseases.
