Research title
Dissecting the role and structural features of cortical interneurons with respect to neurovascular coupling

Research project

Cortical interneurons play an important role in controlling and shaping excitation in cortical circuits. They are heterogeneous in morphology and electrophysiological characteristics as well as molecular profiles. Cortical GABA interneurons are key elements in neurovascular coupling and in the regulation of neuronal energy metabolism. In my research I aim to use various types of approaches to study the role and structural features of cortical GABA interneurons with respect to neurovascular coupling. For this propose I intend to map the vascular “ volume of action” of those interneurons and their afferent inputs into contractile elements, and elucidate the joint activity patterns of GABA interneurons and blood flow dynamics under spontaneous and sensory-evoked activity.
