Accurate and comprehensive assessment of the cerebrovascular system is highly important in clinical setup, for the assessment of tissue integrity and disease severity; identification of tissue at risk; and prediction of treatment response. Characterization of the cerebrovascular system includes quantitative measures such as blood flow and perfusion, assessment of the presence, source and potency of collaterals, and imaging and assessment of perfusion in the different vascular territories. Using MRI, several methods have been proposed to indirectly measure various vascular parameters, yet many of these methods still rely on qualitative assessment and require the input of an expert neuro-radiologist when applied in clinical practice.
The project will focus on developing and applying methods for quantitative assessment of the brain's vascular system in healthy controls and in patients with vascular pathologies.
The research is being conducted at the Functional Brain Center at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center the supervision of Dr Dafna Ben Bashat.
