Research topic: Investigation of the Cellular and Molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s Disease and development of novel therapeutic approaches to counteract them
Main projects in the lab include:
- The role of pathological synergistic interactions between genetic and environment risk factors of Alzheimer’s.These experiments focus on apoE4, which is the most prevalent genetic risk factor of the disease and on an investigation of the mechanisms underlying it’s pathological effects on brain neurons and on the vascular system. The experiments are performed at both the cellular and transgenic animal model levels
- Development of a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.These studies are directed at the development of immunological and pharmacological approaches to counteract the pathological effects of apoE4.
