Research topic: The molecular mechanisms underlying the association between Gaucher disease and Parkinson’s disease

Research methods: Molecular techniques (cloning, transfections, DNA, RNA and protein methodology), cell biology techniques (microscopy), Drosophila work

Projects in the lab include:

  1. ER stress and UPR as the links between Gaucher disease and Parkinson’s disease.
  2. Neuronopathic Gaucher disease in Drosophila melanogater as a model system.
  3. Treatments for neuronopathic Gaucher disease (drug delivery to the brain).
  4. Use of Drosophila malanogaster as a platform to screen and validate efficiency of pharmacological chaperones.
